MYSTIC HEART MEDITATION PROGRAM

The Department of Religion has announced the schedule for the 2008 Mystic Heart Meditation Program. The program brings to Chautauqua teachers-in-residence from a variety of religious and spiritual traditions. These teachers provide Chautauquans of all backgrounds a group experience of universal meditation practices.

The Mystic Heart teachers will offer instruction and guidance in the esoteric teachings of Christianity, Judaism, Sufi practices of Islam, as well as Zen Buddhism, Hinduism, Yoga, and Sikhism. Each week's teacher-in-residence will lead a meditation from 7:15 to 8 a.m. Monday through Friday. In addition, there will be an afternoon seminar on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m. These sessions will offer more in-depth instruction within each tradition.

The schedule for the summer series is:

  • Week One: Dariel and Michael Woltz, Hinduism
  • Week Two: Paul Bloom, Zen Buddhism
  • Week Three: Roshi Bodhin Kjolhede, Zen Buddhism
  • Weeks Four and Five: Subagh Singh Khalsa, Sikhism/Yoga
  • Week Six: Larry Terkel, Judaism/Kabbalah
  • Week Seven: Mary Lou Lisowski, Centering Prayer/Christianity
  • Week Eight: Muinuddin and Sharifa Smith: Sufism/Islam
  • Week Nine: Subagh Singh Khalsa, Sikhism/Yoga

The entire program of instruction and practice is appropriate for people of all faiths as well as for people of no particular religion. One intention of the Mystic Heart Meditation Program is to help participants discover the universality of experience within all wisdom traditions.
