William Foege MD

William Foege, MD, MPH is chair
of the Board of Directors of the Global Health Council. A professor
emeritus in the Department of International Health at Emory University's
Rollins School of Public Health, Dr. Foege is currently also
a fellow for global health initiatives at the Bill & Melinda
Gates Foundation. A renowned epidemiologist, he was named director
of the Center for Disease Control (CDC) because of his work in
the successful campaign to eradicate smallpox in the 1970s.
In 1984, he and several colleagues created the Task Force for
Child Survival, a working group for the World Health Organization,
UNICEF, the World Bank, UNDP and the Rockefeller Foundation.
Dr. Foege has also served as the executive director of The Carter
Center. He received his BA from Pacific Lutheran University,
his MD from the University of Washington Medical School, and
his MPH from Harvard University. |
